Netflix is having a come-to-Jesus moment.

The streamer has ordered to series Messiah, a 10-episode drama “exploring the lines among religion, faith and politics,” from exec producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey. The modern-day epic, created by Michael Petroni (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader), is set for release sometime in 2019.

Mark Burnett, Roma Downey Developing Religious Drama ‘Messiah’ for Netflix
Mark Burnett and Roma Downey are developing a scripted religious drama entitled “Messiah” for Netflix, Variety has confirmed. The project is in the very early development stages, but would be set in the modern day and tell the story of the world’s reaction to a man who appears to be performing miracles in the Middle East.

Burnett and Downey will exec produce along with Andrew Deane​. Michael Petroni is the creator of the series, and will also serve as an executive producer. Petroni’s previous credits include the creating the ABC drama “Miracles,” which starred Skeet Ulrich as an investigator working on behalf of the Catholic Church.

Bold acquires spec script ‘The Edge Of Normal’

The production and finance company has acquired the spec script by Matt Venne based on the novel by Carla Norton.

Bold’s Michel Litvak, Matthew Rhodes and Lisa Zambri are attached to produce along with Industry Entertainment’s Andrew Deane.

Bold’s Gary Michael Walters will serve as executive produce alongside Industry’s Ava Jamshidi. Bold’s Karen Barna, svp of business and legal affairs handled the negotiations.

The Edge Of Normal tells the story of the grown-up survivor of a sexual predator who is pulled into a game of cat-and-mouse when she is assigned to mentor another young survivor.

Bold Films had two films that featured prominently in the last awards season, having produced Nightcrawler (pictured) and produced and financed Whiplash.

Earlier this year Warner Bros released Lost River, Bold Films’ third collaboration with Ryan Gosling, that marked his debut as a writer and director.

Bold Films is developing the thriller “The Edge of Normal” as a movie after outbidding several other potential buyers for Matt Venne’s script, Variety has learned exclusively.

The project, based on Carla Norton’s 2013 novel, is being produced by Bold’s Michel Litvak, Matthew Rhodes and Lisa Zambri, along with Industry Entertainment’s Andrew Deane. Bold’s Gary Michael Walters will executive produce, along with Industry’s Ava Jamshidi.

Bold Films has picked up Matt Venne's film script adaptation of Carla Norton's 2013 novel "The Edge of Normal". Michel Litvak, Matthew Rhodes, Andrew Deane and Lisa Zambri will produce.

‘Everly’ Producers Eye Black List Action-Thriller ‘Dig’
Exclusive: Vega, Baby!, the new production and finance outfit from Ricky Budhrani and Everly producer Adam Ripp, has optioned Black List 2013 genre script Dig, by scribe Adam Taylor Barker. The action-thriller set in the Appalachian Mountains tracks Sol, a tough-as-nails grave digger out for revenge after his father-in-law kidnaps his daughters.

Vega, Baby! opened up shop in August with backing from Singapore-based financiers and recently added an acquisitions and distribution arm, picking up horror pic Ghoul for release in 2015. The company is moving fast on Dig, packaging the project to shoot next year.

Ripp and Everly co-producer Brett Hedblom will produce for Vega, Baby! Productions with Andrew Deane of Industry Entertainment, and Andrew Pfeffer. Jon Cassar to Helm, Exec Produce Fox’s ’24: Live Another Day’
Jon Cassar will return to “24″ to exec produce and helm multiple episodes of the revived Agent Jack Bauer drama, it was announced this morning.

As of now, Cassar is slated to exec produce and direct the first two episodes of revival “24: Live Another Day,” which received a 12-episode order from Fox and will debut on the net in May next year. 20th Century Fox TV will be producing the event-style miniseries, and Kiefer Sutherland is set to reprise the title role.

Cassar, who won Emmys for his work on the original iteration of Fox’s “24,” produced and directed 59 episodes of the real-time series, including the telepic “24: Redemption.”

“Jon was a profoundly integral part of ‘24’ creatively and culturally,” said showrunner Howard Gordon. “It doesn’t feel like it would be ‘24’ without him, and we’re all just really thrilled to be working with him again.”

Relativity's Sci-Fi Thriller Tipping Point Lands a New Writer/Director

Ric Roman Waugh is definitely a hot property these days. Along with Snitch, starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Jon Bernthal of "The Walking Dead," coming in February, he just signed on to helm and rewrite Relativity's Tipping Point.

Per Variety, Tipping Point, based on a script by Todd Stein, is set in a world 100 years into the future where the penalty for having children without a license is death. The story centers on an officer who lives for his job until the day he discovers two fugitives he's been pursuing are the love of his life, who mysteriously disappeared years ago, and the 12-year-old son he never knew he had.

The film's producers are Temple Hill Entertainment's Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey along with Relativity Media topper Ryan Kavanaugh and Industry Entertainment's Andrew Deane. Relativity president Tucker Tooley and Industry Entertainment's Jess Rosenthal executive produce.

Regarding the validity of The Black List, things to keep in mind:

some of these screenplays have already been acquired and are already in development, though…none will have entered principal photography by December 31, 2011. For the seventh annual year a list of the top unproduced screenplays written in the past 12 calendar months has been made. The Black List is the most recognized and celebritized compilation for screenwriters and unknown movie ideas to be heard. While some prior Black List scripts have gone on to be made (like Juno or 500 Days of Summer), most scripts do not. However, what being on The Black List can do is to give a big push of credibility to a screenwriter hoping to carve out a career in Hollywood.

The Black List recepients are chosen by a committee of 300 individuals working in Hollywood: agents, writers, producers, managers and the like.
