Fantastic Beasts 2 Gets David Sakurai as Magical Villain
While Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 has already been shooting since mid-July, with the first Fantastic Beasts 2 set photo surfacing last month, it seems the cast is still coming together. A new report reveals that Danish-Japanese actor David Sakurai has come aboard to play a villainous new character, connected to the dark wizard Grindlewald, played by Johnny Depp. It isn't clear if David Sakurai has already started shooting his scenes, or how long production is expected to last for.

Deadline broke the news today, revealing that David Sakurai is playing a character named Krall. The character is described as "one of the ambitious and sulky henchman" to Gellert Grindlewald. The story is set in the year 1927, a few months after the events of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, where magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) captured Grindlewald in the first movie. Grindlewald promised that he would make his escape,

‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’: A VFX Creature Guide

  • Indiewire
‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’: A VFX Creature Guide
The real stars of J.K. Rowling’s “Fantastic Beasts,” of course, are the creatures themselves.

They’re animated by a gaggle of VFX all-stars: Framestore, Double Negative, Mpc, Image Engine, among others, overseen by production VFX supervisors Christian Manz and Tim Burke.

The mandate from “Harry Potter” veteran director David Yates was not too make the creatures overly fantastical and thereby unrelatable, which is why there are so many distinct animal influences. And originally the VFX supervisors envisioned individual environments for each beast inside the suitcase, but Rowlings suggested that wizard Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) would have to be as powerful as Valdemort to pull that off, so they scaled it way back. Here are a few of the highlights:

The Niffler

This badger-like creature has a penchant for stealing treasure. “He was always going to be a cheeky character that’s always trying to get out to steal stuff and embarrass Newt,

‘Jungle Book,’ ‘Rogue One,’ ‘Doctor Strange’ Lead Visual Effects Oscar Race

‘Jungle Book,’ ‘Rogue One,’ ‘Doctor Strange’ Lead Visual Effects Oscar Race
Members of the Academy’s visual effects branch will have their work cut out for them in narrowing this year’s wide-ranging field of big-screen spectacles down to 10 semi-finalists for the bakeoff stage in a few weeks, let alone settling on five nominees to fill out the Oscar ballot.

At least two films are all but locked for recognition, and one of them we can probably feel safe in calling sight-unseen: “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” No one will get a look at the film until the Dec. 10 Hollywood premiere, but the mega franchise’s history in this category is difficult to ignore; the only “Star Wars” film to be dismissed by the visual effects branch was “Revenge of the Sith” in 2005, when the whole enterprise had become rather stale (despite, naturally, showing no signs of weakness at the box office). Not only that, but visual effects play into

Harry Potter Creatures Run Wild in New Fantastic Beasts TV Spots

Harry Potter Creatures Run Wild in New Fantastic Beasts TV Spots
Three new TV spots have arrived from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. And if they seem overly familiar to you, perhaps its because this new Harry Potter spin-off is curbing from the original Ghostbusters and it's recent sequel. As we see in this latest footage, Newt Scamander is responsible for unleashing an army of crazy critters on New York City. And now, he must clean up the mess and save the day!

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander, played by acclaimed actor Eddie Redmayne, has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident...Were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt's fantastic beasts, which could

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them Final Trailer Is All That’s Best In Potter Films

As we get closer to the mid-November release, we finally get a truly in-depth look at Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and it turns out that it was worth waiting for.

Anything related to the Harry Potter franchise really needs no further sell, but even though the book and film series is almost universally loved, some films are better than others, and certainly some books leave something to be desired. Moreover, some installments aim toward the simplistic, while others (especially when considering the films) look to broaden the scope of the dialog.

They’re all good, but that means something different in some cases. For example, Alfonso Cuarón’s Prisoner of Azkaban stands out among the film as the richest effort, which hoped to elevate the text and its themes.

If the trailer can be believed, it looks as though this one is moving in a similar direction,
