Nightwing Shortlist Allegedly Narrowed To Two

Day by day, we’re beginning to form a clearer picture of Chris McKay’s Nightwing movie.

Warner Bros. and DC Films, in particular, may be in a state of flux following Justice League, but McKay is clearly still chipping away at his big-screen adaptation of Dick Grayson, the heroic sidekick who’s been a cornerstone of DC Comics since as far back as 1963.

It’s still early days, what with no firm release date and/or casting news to report; nevertheless, that has in no way quelled the onslaught of rumors. Indeed, the latest report is alleging that Warner’s shortlist has been whittled down to two: Matt Bomer and Sean Pignatelli.

File this firmly in the rumor cabinet for now, as last we reported, Chris McKay hinted that he’ll be ready to share firm details in February. In the meantime, grab those tinfoil hats and let’s indulge in a little speculation.

Matt Bomer and Josh Wiggins Talk Going Off the Grid in 'Walking Out'

Matt Bomer and Josh Wiggins Talk Going Off the Grid in 'Walking Out'
For Matt Bomer and Josh Wiggins, who star together in Walking Out, there's something about nature that forges human connections.

The film, which had its debut at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, follows an estranged father (Bomer) and son (Wiggins), who are forced to rely on one another to survive an unforgiving wilderness in Montana. The movie, which is directed by Alex Smith and Andrew J. Smith, also features Bill Pullman

‘Only the Brave’ Review: Josh Brolin and Miles Teller Are Hardworking Firefighters in Emotional Drama

‘Only the Brave’ Review: Josh Brolin and Miles Teller Are Hardworking Firefighters in Emotional Drama
In June 2013, the Yarnell wildfire in Arizona spiraled out of control and killed 19 firefighters from nearby Prescott, marking the highest death toll for U.S. firefighters since 9/11. Only one member of the group, a lookout stationed elsewhere, survived the massacre. That’s the setting for “Only the Brave,” but it takes almost the entire running time to get there. The movie is so cautious about avoiding disaster movie tropes that you can practically sense the resistance to arriving at the tragic finale. The result is a tasteful, well-acted bore, but so out of sync with traditional studio filmmaking it deserves some kudos anyway.

The two-hour plus working class drama stars Josh Brolin as the hardened leader of the group and Miles Teller as the eventual lookout struggling to find his place in the pack. That makes it stand apart from other approaches to adaptations of real-life catastrophes: Avoiding the morbid

‘Happy Death Day’ Review: ‘Groundhog Day’ Gets a Horror Remake That’s Better at Scaring Up Laughs Than Screams

‘Happy Death Day’ Review: ‘Groundhog Day’ Gets a Horror Remake That’s Better at Scaring Up Laughs Than Screams
Christopher B. Landon’s “Happy Death Day” doesn’t break out its first “Groundhog Day” joke until well into its third act, but the Jason Blum-produced horror film wears its cinematic pedigree with seeming pride. You can practically hear the pitch that sold the film: it’s the classic Bill Murray comedy, but as a horror film — and centered on a bratty co-ed who gets brutally murdered every night, and is forced to relive the whole thing the next day.

Even the most basic of building blocks are in place, from an initially unlikable protagonist to a generous serving of montages and even an overarching message about the power of being a good person (at one point, a character screams, “love is love!” and it’s both totally endearing and hilariously out of place). But while such a formula has been memorably applied to other genres with strong results — earlier this year,
