Dwayne Johnson hopes to break the video game adaptation curse with Rampage

Earlier this week, Warner Bros. unveiled the first trailer for Rampage, an adaptation of the 80s arcade game, with Dwayne Johnson taking on the lead role of a primatologist out to save the world against a mutated giant gorilla, werewolf and lizard.

As always when a new video game adaptation is announced, the question is raised whether this could be the movie to break the dreaded “video game adaptation curse” – and that’s something The Rock has addressed on social media, stating that he hopes to have learned his lesson from 2005’s Doom.

Thank you guys for the trust.

I’m ultra focused aka “f*cking obsessed”;) to overcome the “video game adaptation curse” and delivering something great w/ #RampageMovie.

Plus, remember, I made and failed w/ Doom years ago. Lessons learned my friend. https://t.co/eq2t7H6rF0

First Trailer for Live-Action 'Rampage' Movie Starring Dwayne Johnson

"Oh, what, you didn't know about the 30 foot wolf?" Warner Bros has launched the first official trailer for Rampage, the live-action version of the classic 1980s video game about apes and monsters destroying city buildings. Yeah, they actually went and made this. Can you believe it?! Rampage the movie, get out of town! From the director of San Andreas and Incarnate, Rampage follows a primatologist named Davis Okoye, played by Dwayne Johnson, who shares a bond with the big white ape George. Suddenly something weird causes him to start growing in size fast. The full cast includes Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Akerman, Joe Manganiello, Naomie Harris, Marley Shelton, Jake Lacy, Breanne Hill, Jack Quaid, Joey Thurmond, and P.J. Byrne. You shouldn't be surprised to hear that this looks fun, but it also looks like CGI mania. Yes, there is building smashing. I prefer this Dwayne Johnson over the one in Jumanji any day.

Dwayne Johnson Battles Giant Monsters in ‘Rampage’ Trailer

Dwayne Johnson Battles Giant Monsters in ‘Rampage’ Trailer
It’s up to Dwayne Johnson to save the world, with a giant ape named George on the loose, in the first trailer for New Line’s action adventure “Rampage.”

Johnson portrays a primatologist who keeps people at a distance, but shares a bond with George, a silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment mutates the gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size — along with other similarly altered animals across North America, destroying everything in their path.

“You don’t know about the 30-foot wolf?” Johnson’s asked at one point.

The key plot point in the trailer comes when a caged George is put on a jet airline, despite Johnson’s advice: “Having George on that plane is a big mistake.”

We then see George busting out of a cage and the plane winding up on fire over Chicago. Later on, Johnson

The Rock Battles Giant Beasts in First Trailer For Rampage

  • Cinelinx
For the first time since 1995, we might have a video game movie that lives up to Mortal Kombat’s greatness. How do we know? Because The Rock, duh.

In 1986 Bally Midway introduced us to an arcade game where players take control of gigantic monsters destroying cities, all while trying to survive against military forces. You would win each round by completely destroying the city. Sounds like the perfect basis for an action adventure film. But who is big enough to star in such a monstrous film?

Well no other than The Rock. In the abundance of films that he, or one of his clones, have been filming lately Rampage is set to be the next video game project to attempt to accepted by audiences. Rock plays Davis Okoye, a primatologist who is the head of an anti-poaching unit. He is accompanied by his best friend, an albino silver back named George.

Rampage Trailer Has The Rock Fighting Giant Mutant Monsters

Rampage Trailer Has The Rock Fighting Giant Mutant Monsters
Warner Bros. has unleashed the first trailer for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Rampage. The movie is an adaptation of the popular arcade game, which centers on several massive monsters destroying cities all over the world. It's a simple premise, but one that, combined with the star power of The Rock, has the makings of what could be the first genuinely good video game movie Hollywood has ever produced. At least on paper. But now we have the first footage to give us an idea of what Rampage, which arrives in theaters on April 20, 2018, is actually going to look like.

Rampage sees Dwayne Johnson as Primatologist Davis Okoye, a man who shares an unshakable bond with George, an extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. Unfortunately, a rogue genetic experiment goes awry and transforms this gentle ape into a raging monster, along with several other creatures around the world.

The Rock's Rampage Trailer Is Coming Very Soon

The Rock's Rampage Trailer Is Coming Very Soon
We're going to get our first look at the Rampage movie very soon as the first trailer is rumored to arrive next week. Video game movies have been, to say the least, problematic in Hollywood up to this point. But Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson may be the man who can fix that problem as he headlines the cast of Rampage, which is based on the classic arcade game of the same name. We'll know soon enough, as it looks like Warner Bros. wants to release the first trailer in time for it to play ahead of Justice League in theaters next weekend.

The Rampage teaser trailer has been classified by the Manitoba Film Classification board, meaning that its release is imminent. The timing seems pretty perfect as well. Rampage wrapped filming in July, which means the post-production team has had quite a bit of time to get the monsters looking good.
