‘The Orville,’ ‘Swat,’ ‘Ballers’ Score California Tax Credits

‘The Orville,’ ‘Swat,’ ‘Ballers’ Score California Tax Credits
“Ballers” will continue balling on the Golden State’s dime — as will “S.W.A.T.,” “Shooter” and “The Orville.” The Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson-series scored another cool $6.8 million from the California Film Commission’s tax credit program. That Season 4 sum is higher than the allocation for the sophomore turn of Shemar Moore’s CBS cop drama, which landed about $6 million for its next run. Both are lower than the $8.2 million earmarked for Season 3 of USA Network’s “Shooter.” Though surely no one from those three subsidized series are complaining, their monies don’t come close to Fox’s “The Orville,” (pictured above) which.

Los Angeles Fires Stop TV Productions, Close Freeways, and Threaten Homes

Los Angeles Fires Stop TV Productions, Close Freeways, and Threaten Homes
Blazes in Southern California are currently wreaking havoc on the film and television community. The 405 Freeway has been partly shut down due to a brush fire that started last night and now encompasses 50 acres, per the Los Angeles Fire Department. That fire endangers the famed Getty and Skirball Cultural Centers; according to Bloomberg, Rupert Murdoch’s Bel Air estate is among those that fall within the evacuation zone.

These are in addition to four active fires reported yesterday in the counties of Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Ventura, plus one in Santa Clarita that raged across tens of thousands of acres, with the Ventura fire requiring 27,000 residents to evacuate.

Valencia and Newfall, California have also endured the Rye Fire since yesterday, necessitating a two-day (thus far) closure of Santa Clarita Studios, home to the new CBS crime drama “S.W.A.T.,” starring Shemar Moore.

The show is currently in production on season two, which is expected to premiere sometime in 2018. In a statement on Tuesday, a rep for HBO confirmed the shutdown.

“Due to nearby wildfires, Westworld stopped production earlier today and will resume filming as soon as it’s safe to do so," the statement reads.

Thousands of Southern Californians fled their homes Tuesday as a massive brush fire spread through parts of Ventura County. The fires have been largely fueled by strong Santa Ana winds, which are expected to last until Thursday. CNN reports that the fire had grown to 50,000 acres by Tuesday afternoon.

Actor Jeffrey Wright tweeted about the fires on Tuesday.

"Got an unexpected and unfortunate day off owing to the #CreekFire & #RyeFire," he wrote. "Be safe, folks."
