Thomas Schlamme Elected Directors Guild President
Veteran TV director Thomas Schlamme has been elected president of the Directors Guild of America for a two-year term, succeeding Paris Barclay.

Schlamme was selected by acclamation of the 147 delegates at the DGA’s convention on Saturday at DGA headquarters in Los Angeles.

Barclay announced earlier this year that he would not seek a third term in accordance with the DGA tradition of presidents only serving two terms. The DGA represents more than 17,000 members.

In February, the DGA honored Schlamme with the Robert B. Aldrich Achievement Award for service to the DGA and its membership. Schlamme joined the DGA in 1978.

Supergirl, Ep. 1.07-1.08, “Human For A Day”/”Hostile Takeover”

Supergirl, Season 1, Episode 7, “Human For A Day”

Written by Yahlin Chang & Ted Sullivan

Directed by Larry Teng

Episode 8, “Hostile Takeover

Written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa & Caitlin Parrish

Directed by Karen Gaviola

Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on CBS

How a show with such a clearly drawn main character fails so greatly in focusing on a specific theme or story every week is truly baffling. It’s a telling sign about how badly Supergirl needs to work on its focus that an episode objectively about how Kara deals with not having powers on a day when National City goes through a massive crisis barely deals with that subject at all. “Human For A Day” is instead content to look towards a plethora of other action that barely has to do with Kara, if at all. “Hostile Takeover” too is more focused on the titular hero for only a fraction of the time,

‘Supergirl’ Premiere: Melissa Benoist, Producers on Empowering Women, On-Screen and Off

‘Supergirl’ Premiere: Melissa Benoist, Producers on Empowering Women, On-Screen and Off
Supergirl” took flight on CBS Monday night, and for executive producers Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler, Andrew Kreisberg and Sarah Schechter, one of the most thrilling aspects of the premiere is the opportunity to introduce the world to a super-powered side of “Glee” star Melissa Benoist, who carries the show with effortless charisma even when her alter-ego, Kara, is hiding her abilities as a mild-mannered assistant to media mogul Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart).

“When we first saw her, she was exactly who we saw in our heads and our hearts … and then we had to go through this extensive process of seeing other people and being in love with someone already,” Adler recalls. “You start knowing her in your head and you start writing to her, and she’s just a tremendous soul and we’re so excited to bring her to everyone.”

“She’s incredibly likable and we talk a

Agents of Shield, Ep. 2.18, “The Frenemy of My Enemy”: Ice Cream With Dad

Agents of Shield, Season 2, Episode 18: “The Frenemy of My Enemy”

Written by Monica Owusu-Breen and Paul Zbyszewski

Directed by Karen Gaviola

Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on ABC

“The Frenemy of My Enemy” is an episode with a whole lot going on, probably a little too much going on. The return of Ward, Hydra seeking out super-humans, and Cal’s day out with Skye all come to a head in a big showdown in Milwaukee. Plus, Simmons and May are clashing over Gonzalez’s Shield, and one of Jiaying’s super-humans goes missing on a camping trip. As a result, everything except for Skye and Cal’s father-daughter date feels rushed, but thanks mostly in part to Kyle MacLachlan’s performance, the episode is still very entertaining, despite its minor flaws.

One of the biggest problems with the return of Ward and Coulson getting into Hydra is that their

Rumors Intensify For Jolie As Captain Marvel Director – But Is She The Least Qualified?

The speculation surrounding the currently empty director’s chair of Marvel’s planned Captain Marvel movie continues to focus on Angelina Jolie. According to Collider’s updated story from their sources at Marvel, the appointment of Patty Jenkins as director of Wonder Woman for Warner Bros. has essentially kicked that speculation up a gear, moving the rumor status from the studio being ‘in pursuit of Jolie’ to being ‘in hot pursuit of Jolie.’ It remains to be seen whether the actress-director is either interested in making a comic book adaptation, or has the time – but the rumors highlight an interesting, yet frustrating trend in the current superhero genre.

There is no denying that both DC/Warner Bros. and Marvel/Disney have heeded audience calls for better female representation in their superhero movie franchises. Less than ten years ago, every major superhero release was led by male characters, but now, we

Weekly reviews: Gotham: S1E9: Harvey Dent

Greetings, Gothamites!

As ever, spoilers for the episode follow...

‘Young Harvey Dent!” I said to myself, excitedly. It’s about time: Two-Face is the most iconic of all Batman villains and his duality is as much a metaphor for the struggle between man and vigilante as it is a tragedy with which we can sympathise. Joker might be more emblemic, more primordial, more mythological – the yang to Batman’s yin – but Harvey Dent and Two-Face are the flip-side of the two-headed coin to Bruce Wayne and Batman. I have been wanting to see his younger self in action since the pilot and now is definitely the right time to introduce him.

Oddly enough, the episode appears to have a bit of a multiple personality disorder of its own: it doesn’t seem able to focus on any one aspect of the show for too long and it keeps
