Superior Donuts: CBS Ups Season Two Episode Order

It's time to make the donuts at the Tiffany Network. CBS has ordered a full second season of its Superior Donuts TV show. Honorary Oscars: Donald Sutherland in "Ordinary People"

Lynn Lee reflects on Honorary Oscar winner Donald Sutherland's work in a former Best Picture...

The first time I saw Ordinary People, I remember thinking it was very good, very sad, and very WASPy, and that the acting was outstanding across the board. I was most impressed, if also most frustrated, by Mary Tyler Moore for playing so convincingly against type as the chilly, brittle, allergic-to-grief Beth Jarrett; found Timothy Hutton’s guilt-racked Conrad the most relatable; and Judd Hirsch’s warm, no-bs shrink the most appealing. Yet the character I ended up feeling the most sympathy for was Donald Sutherland’s Calvin, who’s forced to accept the disintegration of the family he fought so hard to preserve.

Superior Donuts: Season Two Ratings

Last year, although it earned much lower demo ratings and drew a somewhat smaller total viewership than the cancelled The Great Indoors, CBS renewed its Superior Donuts TV show for a second season. What matters now is whether or not it can retain or even build upon its freshman season audience. Will Superior Donuts be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned. A CBS comedy based on the Tracy Letts play of the same name, Superior Donuts stars Judd Hirsch, Jermaine Fowler, Katey Sagal, David Koechner, Maz Jobrani, Anna Baryshnikov, Darien Sills-Evans, Rell Battle, and Diane Guerrero. Slaves Of Hollywood - A 1993 film about Hollywood Assistants ripped from today's headlines, sort of.

by Terry Keefe

Back in the mid-90s, Michael Wechsler, Brian Grossman, and myself collaborated with a bunch of great young actors and crew for this micro-budgeted feature film about tortured Hollywood assistants. Alex Simon makes a few cameos also!

As we were going for "theater of the absurd," and (mostly) dark laughs, it isn't the perfect companion to today's headlines, but some of the milieu will be familiar. The stories about Harvey Weinstein abounded even then. In total honesty, I had great bosses in Hollywood, and the film is all based on stories we had heard about Other bosses. The ones you didn't want to work for. There but for the grace of God went we. But Meryl Streep did later call Harvey "God," so it all gets confusing.

We shot this two years before Kevin Spacey tore up the screen as the abusive producer in Swimming With Sharks,

Rebecca Miller, whose documentary on her father, Arthur Miller: Writer, is also screening during this year's festival, took on the role of Loretta (named after Loretta Young or Loretta Lynn, we wondered, and if Maureen came from Maureen O'Hara) in her friend Noah Baumbach's latest.
