Spike Lee, On Fire: An Exclusive Conversation About Netflix, Domestic Terrorism, and the Brilliance of ‘Get Out’
The aftershocks of white nationalist rallies and their violence are still felt in Charlottesville, which hosted the 30th annual Virginia Film Festival this weekend. At the entrance of the fest’s marquee venue, the Paramount Theater (located on the idyllic main street that became a conflict zone August 12), the state pressured festival organizers to install metal detectors. Even as the festival decided to focus on the theme of “Race in Film,” out-of-town white supremacists started making their presence felt in Charlottesville as court appearances stemming from “A12” (the locals’ term for the horrific events this summer) began.

Against this backdrop, Spike Lee came to Charlottesville this weekend and screened his 1997 documentary “4 Little Girls,” about the 1963 murder of four young African-American girls in the bombing of the Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama.

“I think terrorism is terrorism whether it’s Isis, the Klan, it’s all terrorism,” said Lee introducing the

Wendy Williams Hits 1,500 Episodes: All About Her Career, Drive and That Halloween Scare
Wendy Williams doesn’t consider herself a “star.” But try telling that to the fans who tune into her show every weekday, or have flown across the world to attend one of her Manhattan tapings.

“I don’t feel like a celebrity, and being celebrated is not my favorite part of this job,” she tells People. “My favorite part is going out there and actually doing the show. It’s the best hour of any day, because if I feel like crap, somehow I’m always lifted up. If I feel really happy, I can spread that to other people.

Chris Rock Made Sexual Assault Jokes During Recent Stand-Up Set, Said Women ‘Cry Rape’ For Money
Chris Rock attempted to joke about sexual harassment and assault during a recent set at New York City’s famed Comedy Cellar, but the jokes left the audience speechless in the wake of real allegations being made against Hollywood executives, directors, and more. Page Six reports that Rock’s November 2 stand-up gig included jokes in which the comedian said he is no longer hiring women since they “cry rape.”

“[Women] cry rape because they want money,” Rock reportedly joked. He said he would need a crew of witnesses around him should he ever hire a woman because then he’d be able to deny a potential rape accusation. Rock even joked he wouldn’t be hiring a cleaning lady out of fear of false harassment and assault allegations.

Matthew Weiner and Louis Ck Didn’t Just Allegedly Harass Women — They Silenced Them
As an avalanche of stories about bad behavior in Hollywood consumes the industry, it’s time to not only question the system that enabled this behavior, but acknowledge the full extent of the resulting damage.

Beyond the physical or psychological damage that such harassment and assault caused its victims, many of these cases impacted careers — stopping some from chasing their Hollywood hopes and dreams all together, and keeping others from pursuing certain jobs because of whom might be attached.

For instance, in the NY Times exposé on Louis C.K.’s long history of sexual misconduct, two of the two women who watched C.K. get naked and masturbate in front of them, writers Dana Min Goodman and Julia Wolov, told the newspaper that they didn’t go to the police because they were unsure whether or not what he had done was a criminal act.

But beyond whether C.K.

‘Mad Men’ Creator Matthew Weiner Accused of Sexual Harassment by Writer Kater Gordon
Matthew Weiner, best known as the creator of “Mad Men,” has been accused of sexual harassment by Kater Gordon. Gordon first started as Weiner’s personal assistant before being promoted to his writers assistant and then later a staff writer on the acclaimed AMC drama series. Gordon won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series alongside Weiner in 2009 for writing the episode “Meditations In An Emergency.”

In an interview with The Information, Gordon says she was harassed by Weiner late one night when he allegedly said to her that she owed it to him to let him see her naked. She says she “froze and tried to brush [the comments] off” by continuing to work with Weiner that evening in the office. Gordon believed it was “lose-lose situation,” as confronting Weiner would “end her career” and not confronting him would “make it impossible to work with him.”

Boo 2! a Madea Halloween Kills the Box Office with $21.6M

Boo 2! a Madea Halloween Kills the Box Office with $21.6M
Over the past few years, the third weekend in October has proven to be the most competitive, for whatever reason. This year, five new movies were ushered into theaters in wide release, one of which didn't make the top 10 (Same Kind of Different As Me in 12th place with $2.6 million), and one of which debuted in the top spot, Tyler Perry's Boo 2! a Madea Halloween. The horror-comedy sequel followed in its predecessor's footsteps as a modest box office hit, taking the top spot with $21.6 million, while the rest of its competitors managed to underperform.

The horror comedy sequel comes almost exactly a year after its predecessor, Boo! A Madea Halloween opened in theaters by taking the top spot at the box office with $28.5 million, in a crowded weekend where it beat three more newcomers, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back ($22.8 million), Ouija: Origin of Evil ($14 million) and Keeping Up With the Joneses

Box Office: ‘Boo 2! A Madea Halloween’ to Haunt Competition on Slow Weekend

Box Office: ‘Boo 2! A Madea Halloween’ to Haunt Competition on Slow Weekend
The opening of Tyler Perry’s horror-comedy sequel “Boo 2! A Madea Halloween” should dominate the North American box office this weekend in the $20 million to $22 million range at about 2,300 locations.

Lionsgate is looking at a result that’s down 30% from the year-ago returns of the original “Boo! A Madea Halloween,” which launched with a $28.5 million weekend on Oct. 21-23 and finished with $73 million domestically. The sequel is directed by Perry from his own script and stars Perry in his ninth iteration as the tough-talking Madea.

As with the original, “Boo 2” is a relatively low-risk project for the studio, with a combined production cost and marketing spend in the $20 million range. It’s the 20th movie Perry’s produced since 2005’s “Diary of a Mad Black Woman.” Both “Boo” movies were inspired by a Chris Rock joke in 2014’s “Top Five.”

Geostorm,” “The Snowman,” and “Only the Brave,” meanwhile, are expected to generate only moderate results at best
