Mo'Nique Calls for Netflix Boycott Over Gender and Race Pay Gap

Mo'Nique Calls for Netflix Boycott Over Gender and Race Pay Gap
Academy Award winning actress and comedian Mo'Nique is calling for a boycott of Netflix after slamming the streaming giant over gender and race bias. The comedian was reportedly offended after Netflix offered her $500,000 for a comedy special when several other comedians were offered a lot more money. Mo'Nique won the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award in 2009 for her role in Precious, but apparently Netflix doesn't go off of r&#233sum&#233s, according to the comedian.

Over the weekend, Mo'Nique took to Instagram to reveal her boycott of Netflix and her reasoning behind doing so. She was reportedly offered $500,000 for a stand-up comedy special to be streamed and she believes that to be unfair since Amy Schumer received $11 million and both Chris Rock and Dave Chappell both received $20 million for their stand-up specials. Mo'Nique was quick to note that Schumer later renegotiated after she learned that Rock and Chappelle were making

Mo’Nique Calls Out Netflix for Gender and Racial Bias, Receives Support from Wanda Sykes

Mo’Nique: Instagram

Mo’Nique is pushing for a Netflix boycott over the streamer’s “gender bias and color bias.” Per Page Six, the comedian and Oscar-winning actress posted a video on Instagram revealing that she was offered just $500,000 to tape a comedy special for the streamer, as compared to Amy Schumer’s $13 million and Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle’s $20 million per standup special.

“When we asked Netflix to explain the difference, why the money was so different, they said, ‘Well, we believe that’s what Mo’Nique will bring,’” Mo’Nique recounts. She adds that Netflix claimed it doesn’t “go off of résumés” when negotiating pay. Mo’Nique rightfully calls bullshit on that: the fact that Schumer sold out Madison Square Garden twice is partially why Netflix agreed to up her pay from the original $11 million.

Despite the pay inequity, Netflix apparently assured Mo’Nique that it still considers her a legend.

Does Nicolas Cage Still Want To Play Superman One Day?

If you’ve been around for a while, then you surely remember the time that separated 1987’s Superman IV: The Quest for Peace from 2006’s Superman Returns. Long story short, Hollywood burned through many scripts when trying to resurrect the Man of Steel for the big screen, with none of them coming to fruition. There was one that came dangerously close to doing so, though.

We are, of course, talking about Superman Lives. Set to have been directed by Tim Burton, it would’ve starred Nicolas Cage as Big Blue and was all but ready to begin filming before the plug was pulled by Warner Bros. Now, we could probably discuss this all day, but for the most comprehensive source out there, it’s best you consult the documentary that chronicled the ill-fated flick, as it really is a fascinating watch.

Anyways, while recently speaking with Variety at the Sundance Film Festival this week,

David Letterman meets Barack Obama – has the talk show legend lost his edge?

In a new Netflix series, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, the former late-night stalwart gently grills the former president, but perhaps it’s all a bit too pedestrian and polite

In May 2015, David Letterman bowed out after 33 years of being America’s most irascible late-night television host. It was a grand affair. A who’s who of American pop culture were there: Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Tina Fey and Jim Carrey all made jokes at his expense, while making sincere comments about his impact on America, and them.

The Foo Fighters played Everlong over a montage of his best bits, tears were shed and then … well, late-night moved on. Stephen Colbert and the Jimmys (Fallon and Kimmel) took over. Dave disappeared, resurfacing briefly with a beanie hat and unkempt beard to berate “Trumpy” on the front cover of New York magazine. If

Why Robin Thede’s Perspective on Late-Night Is Needed by More Than Black Women (Exclusive)

Why Robin Thede’s Perspective on Late-Night Is Needed by More Than Black Women (Exclusive)
Few women have successfully navigated late-night television, but with The Rundown with Robin Thede, Robin Thede is making it her mission to offer something almost unheard of in this space: the black woman’s perspective.

“You should want to know what a black woman feels; you get a bunch of Jimmy's opinions every other night. But with this show you're going to get politics and pop culture told from a different perspective,” says Thede, who after writing and performing on talk shows for Queen Latifah and Larry Wilmore and becoming the first African American female head writer of a late-night talk show (on Wilmore’s The Nightly Show) has stepped out on her own with her 30-minute weekly series on Bet.

In fact, there are two Jimmys -- Fallon and Kimmel -- among the roster of straight, mostly white men hosting some of late-night’s biggest talk shows, but only Thede, Samantha Bee of [link=tt

Lethal Weapon 4: a retrospective

Guy Buckland Dec 14, 2017

Guy takes a belated look at the fourth (but possibly not final) film in the Lethal Weapon franchise…

Spoilers lie ahead for Lethal Weapons 2 to 4.

See related The Oa: 10 questions (sort of) answered The Oa: Netflix renews for season 2 Netflix's The Oa: spoiler-free review

At the beginning of 2016, Den of Geek gave me the opportunity to rank the Lethal Weapon films in order of merit and then write about each one individually. This made me very happy, as it is a franchise for which I have a great deal of passion – both positive and negative. But like a reluctant hit man stuck in a clichéd redemption arc, I just couldn’t finish the job.

By the time I had produced a well-reasoned account of why the third in the series was objectively the worst – an assertion I still stand by, despite what you’re about to read

Jada Pinkett Smith Calls Golden Globes' Tiffany Haddish Snub 'Racism'

Jada Pinkett Smith Calls Golden Globes' Tiffany Haddish Snub 'Racism'
Jada Pinkett Smith has something to get off her chest.

The 46-year-old actress took to Twitter on Monday to tease that she had "so much to say on why TiffanyHaddish was not nominated for a [Golden] Globe" -- before laying it all out on the table on Tuesday.

Pinkett Smith claimed the Hollywood Foreign Press Association wouldn't even watch her and Haddish's movie, Girls Trip, for Golden Globes consideration, despite the film being one of the most successful movies of the summer.

A source with knowledge of the situation, meanwhile, tells Et that Girls Trip was screened for the HFPA on July 18, and that the organization was also invited to movie's premiere.

"But yet... Tiff has been asked to present at their ceremony. This isn't about shaming, this is about the need for discussion of an antiquated system," Pinkett Smith wrote, calling Haddish's snub an act of racism. "Hollywood has systems in place that must learn to expand
