Nicole Kidman’s Speech and a Big ‘Three Billboards’ Win Cap a #MeToo and Time’s Up Dominated SAG Awards
At tonight’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” was the most-nominated film of the evening and the most winning, locking up Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture as well one for Frances McDormand and one for supporting actor Sam Rockwell. Only Woody Harrelson — the film’s fourth nomination, and Rockwell’s competitor, was shut out.

Gary Oldman won best actor for “Darkest Hour,” as did supporting actress Allison Janney (“I, Tonya”). All are Oscar favorites for nominations announced Tuesday.

In its 24th year, the SAG Awards had a host for the first time, Kristen Bell; she was followed by an all-female presenter line-up. The #MeToo and Time’s Up crusades were clearly on the organizers’ mind, just one day after another set of women’s marches. SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris

How often do the four SAG champs go on to win Oscars?

How often do the four SAG champs go on to win Oscars?
With their wins at Sunday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, Gary Oldman (“Darkest Hour”), Frances McDormand (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”), Sam Rockwell (“Three Billboards”) and Allison Janney (“I, Tonya”) continue their march toward becoming the first foursome to sweep the Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice, SAG, BAFTA and Oscar. Their SAG victories are the most important ones of the three groups so far, as the SAGs have a fantastic correlation with the Oscars; SAG has only missed five times in Best Actor, six times in Best Actress, nine times in Best Supporting Actor and seven times in Best Supporting Actress. But despite so much overlap between the individual races, SAG does not go 4-for-4 with Oscar in one season as often as you might think.

Over its 23-year history, SAG has only had a direct match in all four Oscar acting races six times, most recently three years ago. SAG typically goes 3-for-4 with Oscar,

The Show | Star Trek: Discovery

The Episode | “The Wolf Inside” (Jan. 14, 2018)

The Performance | Discovery‘s Michael Burnham is a full-blooded human, but she was raised by Vulcans, so we rarely get to see her true feelings come to the surface. Oscars flashback: Iraq invasion in 2003 almost cancelled 75th anniversary Oscars family album reunion of 59 acting winners [Watch]

The 75th anniversary ceremony for the Academy Awards almost didn’t happen as scheduled. When America led an invasion of Iraq that weekend, broadcast network ABC pleaded with producer Gil Cates and Academy president Frank Piersen to move the event back a week. The duo claimed it would be too expensive to make the switch and that the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood would be unavailable.

On March 23, 2003, the ceremony went live on ABC as scheduled, hosted by comedian, actor, and writer Steve Martin, with the Best Picture proclaimed to be “Chicago.” However, several presenters such as Cate Blanchett, Jim Carrey, and Will Smith cancelled their appearances. That day’s events also caused several past winners to bail out on appearing in the Oscars family album slated for late in the show. Similar to a segment five years early for the 70th anniversary show (read more on the link above), the

Colin Firth

Colin Firth said he won’t appear in any more Woody Allen films, telling The Guardian in a statement: “I wouldn’t work with him again.”

Firth, who starred in Allen’s Magic In The Moonlight in 2014, is the latest actor to turn their back on the controversial 82-year-old filmmaker.

Allen’s adoptive daughter Dylan Farrow accused him of molesting her in an attic when she was seven years-old in a TV interview with CBS yesterday (January 18), prompting the director to deny the claims.

Allen was never charged in relation to the alleged incident and issued a statement denying the allegations.

He said: “The Farrow family is cynically using the opportunity afforded by the Time’s Up movement to repeat this discredited allegation, that doesn’t make it any more true today than it was in the past. I never molested

Selena Gomez’s Mother Had ‘Long Talk’ With Actress About Working With Woody Allen and ‘It Didn’t Click’

Instagram has apparently become the proving ground for the youngest and newest stars of Woody Allen’s latest film, the Amazon production “A Rainy Day in New York.” Just hours after star Timothée Chalamet announced that he’ll donate his entire salary from working on the film to the organizations Time’s Up, Rainn (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network), and The Lgbt Center in New York, his co-star Selena Gomez’s mother, Mandy Teefey, has apparently used her own Instagram account to address concerns about her daughter’s involvement in the film. The film also stars Elle Fanning and Jude Law.

Teefey used her official Instagram account to share a post about the passing of Cranberries member Dolores O’Riordan, which then became something of a message board for Gomez fans — including one who asked Teefey to “make selena write an apology about woddy [sic] Allen film,” to which Teefey herself posted a personal reply.
