10 Cinematography Masters Who Love Celluloid, from ‘Dunkirk’ to ‘Wonder Woman’
The romance with film turned a corner this year with the massive success of Christopher Nolan’s “Dunkirk.” The World War II actioner had the widest 70mm release in 25 years (125 prints, dominated by IMAX), grabbing $188 million domestically and $525 million worldwide. And the visual impact of the IMAX format was powerful in the best picture frontrunner. Whether by land, by air, or by sea, the imagery was immersive. That is why Dutch-Swedish cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema is the frontrunner in his race as well.

But the impact of film on the cinematography race doesn’t stop there. Also in strong contention are “The Beguiled,” “Call Me By Your Name,” “Wonder Struck,” and “Wonder Woman,” all period pieces shot in a variety of styles that particularly benefited from the texture and warmth of 35mm film. At the same time, “The Post,” “Murder on the Orient Express” (another 70mm spectacle), “The Florida Project,

Mark Wahlberg Is 2017's Most Overpaid Movie Star

Mark Wahlberg Is 2017's Most Overpaid Movie Star
It hasn't been the best year for Mark Wahlberg, with his two 2017 movies Transformers: The Last Knight and Daddy's Home 2 both coming in well under expectations, and thanks to his 2016 bombs, he has been named the most overpaid actor of 2017. This comes just a few months after Mark Wahlberg was named the highest-paid actor of 2017, earning a massive $68 million from a variety of sources including salaries from both aforementioned movies, along with his reality series Wahlburgers and his deal as a spokesperson for At&T. It seems that the actor could be set up to "win" this title two years in a row, since this report doesn't even include Transformers: The Last Knight or Daddy's Home 2 in its methodology.

The report from Forbes reveals that to determine the "most overpaid actor," they looked at the last three films each actor starred in, prior to June 1, 2017, excluding "animated films,

Here’s Which Fantastic Beasts Will Return For The Crimes of Grindelwald

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the upcoming second installment of the Harry Potter sequel/prequel series, will move the story forward in some major ways. As the title reveals, it will feature Johnny Depp’s master villain in a more prominent role, with Jude Law also joining the cast as a young Dumbledore.

With more characters and bigger threats taking over, it looked like the first part of the title might be left behind a little. While talking to EW, however, Eddie Redmayne was on hand to assure fans that there are still many “fantastic beasts” set to star in the movie. The actor – who plays magizoologist Newt Scamander – teased a few of the creatures we can expect to see, including a couple of “old favourites.”

“There’s a Chinese creature that’s formidable. There are some of the old favorites: The Niffler is back and causing havoc. As is Pickett.

J.K. Rowling Is 1 of Only 65 People to Hold This Royal Honor

The Black List Names J.K. Rowling Biopic As One Of 2017’s Best Unproduced Scripts

You’ve heard of the Boy Who Lived, but what about When Lightning Strikes?

That’s the buzzworthy pitch from Anna Klassen, who has officially made the cut for 2017’s Black List – an annual rundown of the best unproduced screenplays bouncing around Hollywood. Placing a laser focus on J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter), When Lightning Strikes has been described as the “true story of 25-year-old Joanne Rowling as she weathers first loves, unexpected pregnancies, lost jobs, and depression on her journey to create Harry Potter.” For the record, Klassen’s spec script also landed on the 2017 Hit List.

All of this has led to a groundswell of support for When Lightning Strikes, which will seemingly be more of an intimate, character-driven drama than the fantastical saga of witches and wizards that cemented J.K. Rowling’s name in the history books.

No word yet on whether Klassen’s script has attracted the interest of studios,

Why Freddie Highmore's Golden Globe Nomination Has Been a Long Time Coming

The Golden Globe nominations were unveiled on Monday, and while there are a few snubs on the list, for once, Freddie Highmore is not among them. After years of getting passed over for recognition of his performance as Norman Bates on Bates Motel, the talented 25-year-old earned his first Golden Globe nomination for best actor in a drama series for his role on The Good Doctor. It only took one episode to get me hooked on the ABC medical drama, and that is largely due to Highmore's standout performance as Dr. Shaun Murphy, a surgical resident with autism. While the show's first episode sets the scene by showcasing Shaun's incredible mind and the prejudices he faces for being a doctor with autism, it is Highmore's final scene that really makes me sob uncontrollably. After applying for residency at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital, Shaun meets with a room full of

Golden Globes 2018: 10 Biggest Wtf Snubs and Surprises
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association dropped their nominations for the 75th annual Golden Globe Awards this morning, shouting out some brand new TV shows and adding some momentum to some of the biggest awards season campaigns – The Shape of Water! Three Billboards! Dunkirk! A few other major players, of course, got left off the lineup in a big way – the Globes have a history of some headslapping choices (remember The Tourist for Best Movie? Cybill for Best TV Comedy?). And while this year seemed a little more on-point than usual,

Amber Heard Speaks Out After J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts Statement

Justice League actress Amber Heard is the latest to weigh in on Johnny Depp’s contentious role in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

The post was accompanied by the joint statement released by Johnny Depp and Amber Heard upon reaching a divorce settlement (see below), with the added caption: “To pick and choose certain lines and quote them out of context, is just not right.”
