Kennedy Center Honors Possible Inductees

The list of men and women who deserve to be recognized by the Kennedy Center Honors for their services to the Arts in the United States.
First, they must be alive and able to attend the ceremony in Washington D.C. They don't award posthumously.
I would also like to add Alene Robertson, a musical actress from Chicago, Illinois to the list but she doesn't have an imdb.com page.
The following are those who passed away since this list was formed;
Dick Clark
Levon Helm
Andy Griffith
Ernest Borgnine
Marvin Hamlisch
Phyllis Diller
Hal David
Charles Durning
Andy Williams (he wasn't on this list but he should have been).
In the 2012, three of the previous listings (David Letterman, Natalia Makarova, and Dustin Hoffman) are now Kennedy Center Honorees.

It's hard to imagine television without Betty White so I won't try. Last's year job in hosting Saturday Night Live was done by the fans on facebook. Not too bad that they don't notice. But her contributions to television and film shouldn't go un-noticed and her love for animals especially at the LA Zoo is infectious. Her roles as Sue Ann Niven, Ellen Harper, and Rose Nylund are all worth studying. Betty White's still a pro at playing Elka but she's still going strong at 90 and working non-stop. It's time to honor and respect her.

Norman Lear

If there is anybody who deserves this honor, it's Norman Lear. His television shows like "All In The Family," "Maude," "Good Times," and "The Jeffersons" revolutionized television comedies. Lear allowed families to be imperfect, disagreeable, and dysfunctional long before the word was around in the public conscience. I personally consider "All In the Family" to be the best sitcom there ever was in television history. It was loud, funny, sad, tragic, and a combination of love and hatred. Through Archie Bunker, we understood and sometimes saw him in ourselves or in male relatives around us. Still Carroll O'Connor's performance as Archie Bunker wasn't always a hater. Archie was capable of change even if slowly. When I watched Edith's Crisis Faith two part episode (Christmas), I was reminded of how television can affect us. It's an unforgettable two part episode about dealing with homophobia, crime, and hatred in the 1970s. The show was revolutionary and necessary to expose families as they are.

This writer and creator of two ABC soap operas, "All My Children," and "One Life To Live," has already written for other soaps by the time that ABC recruited her. Between both soaps, she has over 80 years of television already with unforgetable characters like Erica Kane, Adam & Stuart Chandler, Myrtle Fargate, Phoebe Wallingford, Tad Martin, etc. on All My Children and Vikki Lord Buchanan, Clint Buchanan, Asa Buchanan, Dorian Lord, and others on One Life To Live to mention. She has created and wrote for her audiences with both humor and seriousness without being too preachy. She's one of the finest American writers on par with William Shakespeare. She's done a lot for daytime including tackling serious storyline issues from the very beginning. Too bad, her shows have been canceled. She has told many great stories over the years. It's hard to say goodbye to a woman who created Erica Kane. Nixon has always been a dedicated writer even in labor. Few daytime stars are truly genuine in caring about their actors and actresses and the characters that they are playing. I can't say enough about her.

One of the great American actresses ever. She graces any stage, film, or television easily with her presence. She's a tremendous role model who has inspired the audiences whether she's playing Harriet Tubman, Jane Pittman, or any role around. She does perform with grace, class, dignity and style. I would say that she's on the same level as Meryl Streep or any brilliant actress of her generation. She doesn't get the opportunities to play great roles but whenever she takes a role-it's done with intelligence, compassion, and understanding. She has never shown bitterness or envy for her lack of her opportunities. She has class, style, grace, and brilliance. She could make you cry and laugh at the same time and love her character.

Woody Allen's films are legendary for a reason. Can't imagine New York City without Woody Allen and won't bother too.
Okay, I know this will outrage some people particularly her past behavior in Vietnam but I'm thinking about her contributions to the arts and entertainment--on stage, film, and television as well. She's controversial, outspoken, and vocal about her views. Her films particularly "Coming Home" where she played a wife of a military man (played by Bruce Kern) is worth watching. She did the film after the Vietnam disaster in 1978 alongside actual Vietnam Veterans.

Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue, and L.A. Law were revolutionary to television audiences since the 1980s. He was daring and challenging in his provacative dramas. Hill Street Blues was one of the best police dramas on television. L.A. Law inspired a lot of people to become lawyers. He showed how lawyers could be human beings, flawed, burned out by their workload, and yes, funny.

I would like to see her do her own show in Las Vegas where she can do 4 performances per week instead of Broadway's 8 shows a week killer. Still one of Broadway's darlings and living legends in the entertainment field. She's unforgettable as Sally Bowles in the film role, "Cabaret." To this day, I won't see anybody else in that role. That's how brilliant she is in her role. She has plenty of recordings, performed onstage, film and television. She can make any song her own.

She's played a multiple personality and has just about encountered every single obstacle in Vikki's life imaginable onscreen. I expect since One Life to Live will end that she will move her talents to the stage and theatre. I have watched the show on and off for almost 30 years. Slezak's Vikki is a combination of many personalities but mostly as a strong matriarch of her family.

Many actresses would have ditched Erica Kane long ago in the 1970s to pursue a career but not Susan Lucci. She developed and matured Erica Kane into an iconic character to ever be on television. She can be a brilliant comedic actress and a tragic actress as well in her role as Erica Kane. Despite bad scripts, Lucci has overcome the Emmy losses like a lady. For 41 years, she has played a role with passion, loyalty, determination, and dedication to her fans, cast, and crew alike without growing old and retired. She's shown that women can get better with age and is still passionate as ever in her role. Her Erica Kane is sorely missed on television and we'll never have another like her again.

Too bad, he declines the Oscar hosting duties. He's one of the most charitable performers as well. As a standup comedian and talk show host, he has also helped launch careers of other standup comics. Many standup comics stop doing standup when they hit his level of success but not Leno.
It's hard to imagine that she's still around after all these years but she's still doing concerts and has been keeping a lower profile than in the 1980s and 1990s. Maybe she's grown up and I've grown up with her music and style as well. There might be imitators out there but they'll only be one of her.

Before she and her husband migrated from Chicago to Los Angeles, she was the longtime host of her own morning talk show before Oprah Winfrey. She and her husband are responsible for two soaps, Young & Restless and Bold & Beautiful. Too bad, her husband had died a few years ago. He was really a genius but Lee too has done her part in making daytime history. Their marriage was one of the most successful partnerships in television history.

Founder and Father of the Hobart Shakespeare Company which is really the 5th grade class at the Hobart Elementary School in Los Angeles, California. For the last 30 years, he has helped his ten year old students to perform and take part in an unabridged Shakespeare play a year to an audience. The challenge is awe-inspiring as he changes the lives of those students. A great, incredible, miracle working teacher who loves his students and other students as well.
