I like hanging out with these guys. In so many ways they are me and my friends growing up. I watch this film every few years and it always feels me and my buddies reminiscing about one crazy night. The dialogue, acting, and direction are all quiet and confident.

Unlike Slacker, most of these conversations are interesting. Also, the problem of how to make a bunch of over-the-shoulder talking head shots visually interesting is not only handled brilliantly, but handled in a way that makes sense to the story and helps tell it. Never seems as pretentious as it probably should.

Director: Richard Linklater | Stars: Jack Black, Mike White, Joan Cusack, Adam Pascal

Pretty basic story, but all the characters are likable and all the jokes land. It wasn't fantastic, but lived up to everything it tried to be. Fun.

Director: Richard Linklater | Stars: Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, Robert Downey Jr., Rory Cochrane

It definitely evokes paranoia. The animation is great. The acting is descent. Unfortunately, it doesn't all come together in the end. I honestly found it a bit tedious, even as many aspects of it impressed me.

Better dialogue and pacing could have made this much better. As it is, it's claustrophobic and messy. Made for cheap and looks it. Great concept, though.

A day in the life of Austin, Texas as the camera roams from place to place and provides a brief look at the overeducated, the social misfits, the outcasts and the oddballs.

Director: Richard Linklater | Stars: Richard Linklater, Rudy Basquez, Jean Caffeine, Jan Hockey

Votes: 16,701 | Gross: $1.23M

Some of the conversations are interesting, but most are dull and uninspired. If your film is all about dialogue, it has to be a bit better than this.
