Dev Patel at an event for The 74th Golden Globe Awards (2017)

Dev Patel is set to star in a retelling of Charles Dickens’ "The Personal History of David Copperfield," written and directed by "Veep" creator Armando Iannucci. The film will be a modern take on Dickens’ title character as he navigates a chaotic world to find his elusive place within it.

Tessa Thompson

Tessa Thompson has signed on to portray Doris Payne, a woman who gained notoriety for her luxury jewelry heists from stores around the world.

Thompson will also produce the currently untitled film with Codeblack Films’ Jeff Clanagan. The film is conceived as a high-concept action-drama in the vein of Catch Me if You Can and The Thomas Crown Affair.”

Michael Fassbender and David Sandberg are set to star in action-comedy Kung Fury, which Sandberg will direct and produce under his Laser Unicorns' banner. David Hasselhoff is also joining the cast following his role in Sandberg’s original short film of the same name.

Amber Heard will star in [link=]Run Away With Me[/link], the romantic thriller directed by Fred Grivois. Written by Matthew Ian Cirulnick penning the script, the story is centered on Tom and Kimberly (Heard), two star-crossed lovers escaping the dark criminal underbelly of the European modeling industry.

Arnold Schwarzenegger at an event for i (2015)

Arnold Schwarzenegger will star in and executive produce "Outrider," a new Western series in the development at Amazon. The series follows a deputy in Oklahoma Indian Territory in the late 1800s who is tasked by a notorious judge with apprehending a legendary outlaw in the wilderness. The deputy is forced to partner with a ruthless Federal Marshall (Schwarzenegger) to make sure justice is properly served.

Odessa Young

Odessa Young has joined the cast of Sam Taylor-Johnson’s A Million Little Pieces, along with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Billy Bob Thornton, Charlie Hunnam, and Giovanni Ribisi. The story follows a young man who awakens on an airplane to Chicago with no recollection of his injuries or of how he ended up on the plane. He then heads to a rehab and begins his journey to sobriety. Young will play Lilly, a crack and heroin addict who falls in love with the man.

Emily Blunt at an event for The Oscars (2016)

Emily Blunt will star opposite Dwayne Johnson in Disney’s Jungle Cruise. Jaume Collet-Serra is directing the film based on the Disney World ride, which takes guests on a tour of the rivers of the world.

Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks is set to star the iconic television personality Fred Rogers in the upcoming biopic, You Are My Friend. The film was written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster, and will be directed by Marielle Heller (Diary of a Teenage Girl).

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman will star opposite Jude Law in Vox Lux, a drama/musical written and directed by Brady Corbet. Rooney Mara had originally been attached to the film but dropped out of the production.

Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer will reunite for an untitled holiday comedy for Universal.

Chastain and Kelly Carmichael wrote the original treatment and Peter Chiarelli will write the script, which centers on two women who hope to make it home for Christmas.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead will star opposite Will Smith in director Ang Lee's Gemini Man. This film project, which has been in development for 20 years, follows an over-the-hill assassin who faces off against himself, a clone who is younger and in his prime.

DeWanda Wise

DeWanda Wise has joined the cast of Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel in a supporting role. Her character has not yet been revealed but there is speculation she may be playing Monica Rambeau, the hero known as Spectrum.

Jamie Dornan has signed on to co-star with Rosamund Pike in the Marie Colvin biopic A Private War., directed by Matthew Heineman.

Colvin, an American journalist who wrote for U.K.’s Sunday Times, covered major conflicts across the world, from Chechnya to Sri Lanka, where she lost the sight in her left eye in 2001. Colvin died in 2012 during a rocket attack while covering the Siege of Homs in Syria.

Freeman will play Jerome Johnson, the juvenile hall teacher of the title character. The actor is joined in this project by Aldis Hodge, who plays Brian Banks, and Greg Kinnear among others. The project is still in development.

Nicole Kidman has signed on to star in director Karyn Kusama’s crime thriller Destroyer. Kidman will play an LAPD detective who, as a young cop, was placed undercover with a cult-like gang in the California desert. When the leader of that gang re-emerges many years later, she must work her way back through the remaining members and into her own history with them to finally reckon with the demons that destroyed her past.
